Fiji’s termite swarming season typically runs from September to November, with activity sometimes starting as early as mid-August.
According to reporting in The Fiji Times, Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Minister Tomasi Tunabuna said funding has been allocated to strengthen Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) termite operations ahead of the upcoming swarming season. He noted that BAF runs those operations based on its knowledge of termite spread and impact, and that preparations for the season were already underway.
The ministry is also aligning its approach with the Commissioner Weston’s team and local provincial administrators, and has emphasised active community participation. Broader program details and threat-mitigation frameworks were flagged for upcoming stakeholder meetings.
What this means for homeowners
Swarming season is when winged termites (alates) leave nests to start new colonies. Sightings of swarmers or discarded wings indoors or around timber are a signal to check for activity — not a reason to panic, and not a substitute for following official biosecurity guidance.
Colony Killer is an awareness and stockist path site for Fiji. It does not sell online and does not offer treatment services. For product availability in Fiji, ask Fiji Chemicals.
Always follow product labels and any advice from BAF or your local provincial contacts.
